About the Role

BR Set Up & growth

  • Lead the successful implementation of planned BR setup in India in a phased approach.
  • Lead the long-term strategic growth and seamless integration of BR functions at Hyderabad, delivering timely and high-quality support for the BR Portfolio.
  • Develop and contribute to strategic business plans for new teams / functions to start up in Hyderabad, in close collaboration with global line function leaders

Leadership

  • Operational leadership of the cross-functional BR team in India
  • Comprehensive input to research and scientific strategy for all areas executed in India
  • Lead the BR India leadership team and enable innovative scientific culture across the site in India
  • Responsible for executing the local BR Strategy, governance, budget, compliance and talent decisions

Culture

  • Serve as a bridge between the global and local teams: integrate and embed Global Novartis & BR culture & ways of working in local BR teams
  • Create a shared sense of purpose, inspire and energize teams through effective communication and engagement
  • Foster and role model a culture of inspired, curious and unbossed leadership including smart risk-taking in pursuit of novel medicines

Talent

  • Lead, inspire, coach and empower a diverse community of scientists, engineers and other professional staff to drive continuous scientific and operational innovation and excellence in India, with an emphasis on collaboratively building a talent pipeline for all departments represented on site.
  • Ensure effective succession planning, mentoring and efforts to develop critical scientists/future organizational leaders both on site as well as in close collaboration with the respective Biomedical research group. 

Internal & External Collaboration

  • Collaborating across the Research & Development, Commercial and Operations Continuum
  • Representing and positioning Biomedical Research in key internal leadership, talent & governance forums
  • Representing Biomedical Research in key external research groups and consortiums.
  • Support the Site initiatives at Hyderabad in activity areas such as “Talent Development”, “Quality” and “Great Place to Work, “Diversity”

Country level Decision Making

  • Represent BR at Country level as member of Country Coordination Committee India and board member of Novartis Healthcare Private Ltd.
  • Key governance and talent decisions as part of Country Leadership Team and active Country Coordination Committee (CCC) member
  • Hyderabad Site Leadership Team Member
  • Key member of Country NEM (Novartis Emergency Management)

External Interface & Network

  • Accountable for partnering with local CRO teams to ensure reduced cycle times, quality & delivery on priority projects
  • Cultivates and maintains external relationships with key partners, authorities, institutes and professional organizations.
